Description

Vintage Advertising Cardboard Trifold Funeral Home or Church Fan, with a Floral Bouquet Design. It is made from heavy cardboard, and has three parts that rotate behind one another on a small grommet, to open or close the fan. Printed on the fan is a design called by the manufacture "Summer Bouquet." It becomes especially apparent, the more the fan is unfolded. The colors are bright and cheery.They were generally used in about 1950 to 1960, prior to the advent of air conditioning. it is in good condition. It has aged well. The design is still bright with no surface wear. However there are some creases on the back, and damage to the tabs. The back is clean though slightly brown from age. A rare and original "Vintage Advertising Trade Cardboard Trifold Funeral Home or Church Fan, with a Floral Bouquet Design."  This lovely fan, when opened completely, measures approx. 10-1/4” x 7" (26.2 cm x 17.5 cm.)
This fascinating folding handheld fan, made from heavy cardboard, comes in three parts that rotate behind one another on a small grommet. The sides are manually pulled out to form the fan.  Printed on the fan is a design called by the manufacture "Summer Bouquet."   It becomes especially apparent, the more the fan is unfolded. The colors are bright and cheery.
The fans were generally used during about 1950 to 1960, prior to the advent of air conditioning, especially in warm weather. On the back there is advertising for Miller Funeral home, in Reading, PA.  (It was produced by the Gilbert Stone Co, in Philadelphia.)
These fans were given out to the bereaved attending funerals, by the funeral home in the hopes that people would take these fans home and remember their funeral home if they ever needed their services.  They also donated them to churches, to keep the congregation cooled off.
This item is in good to very good condition.  It has aged well.   The Bouquet is still very bright and beautiful.  There is also no surface wear, however it does have some some other wear.    There are some creases, which are mainly visible on the back.   And there are supposed to be two tabs, which were pulled to open the fan.  However those tabs have mostly worn off from use. The back is clean though slightly brown from age, but the advertising copy on the back is still clear and easy to read.
