KNOWN CONCERNS:
NEVER RAN - NEVER TESTED.  I do not have or see any concerns with this Steam Engine.  Of course fragile older items have a tendency to need tweaking over time, but as of right now I do not detect any concerns. I can make ZERO promises to how long these items will last.  I NEVER ran it on a layout.  That means I have also never tested it to verify it is working perfectly.  If you run it on a layout, it will be the first time it has had electricity ran thru it since the day I bought it.  This engine has sat untouched on a train track on a display shelf for about 2 years before I packed it away again.  It might be slightly dusty, although I used compressed air to blow it off for the photos.
History:
I bought this unit back in 2019.  I believe it was in the RAIL KING Limited Edition Catalog in the year 1997 which means it was probably available for sale in 1998.  I had it on a display shelf until about 4 months ago at which time I packed it away and stored it inside my train closet. I just opened it up to take photos and then slipped it back into the boxes.  I can NOT promise it was never ran on a layout because I bought it from a private dealer and it was already old. It looked to me like it probably was not ran, but I'm not an expert on that.  I see no signs of it being used or ran ?
ALSO, whether it was ran for a short period or not when it was brand new, I promise it has NEVER been ran since I bought it for myself. I do not l have a layout or a transformer. This is good because it makes me telling you it's not been ran since I owned it much easier, but on the flipside I can NOT test it. You are buying it UNTESTED.  I have always assumed it would run if I did get my layout, but I can NOT promise that. It has been sitting untouched on a display shelf, and that might mean something isn't working perfectly inside it and it might require oiling, a break in period of running it slowly, or even a MTH RAIL KING Factory Authorized Dealer to give it a once over and make sure everything is tight and working as it should be.
I have been searching for and collecting these limited edition or hard to locate items for over 30 years in hopes of having a large train layout, I now realize will never happen.  It's time for me to let some of these wonderful items go so others may also have a chance to incorporate them into their layouts or display collections.
