Lionel Northern Pacific LEGACY S-4 Diesel Locomotive Engine #717

With a combined production of nearly 1600 units, Alco's S-2 and S-4 switchers served railroads and industries from the 1940s to nearly the end of the century. Dozens remain in operation today. The locomotives were popular in switching yards, industrial areas and small branch line or short line duties. The primary spotting difference between the two models is the trucks, with the S-2 using Alco's Blunt truck and S-4 the AAR Type A switcher truck design. Lionel's latest release of these venerable models includes the many design upgrades featured on our recent NW2 and SW7 locomotives. Featuring a single motor design, the new S-2's now boast improved traction and sounds from previous runs. Also, Bluetooth is now included so these locomotives can be easily run from the Universal Remote or LionChief App. Of course you still get fan-driven smoke, dual ElectroCouplers and fixed pilots. Featured in many popular road names for railroads large and small as well as some industrial operators, this may also be our most colorful assortment of switchers yet!
