The Maine Public Broadcasting Netowrk (MPBN) dates from the 1992 merger of WCBB, the PBS member station for most of southern Maine, with the original MPBN radio and television stations operated by the University of Maine System. WCBB included the call letters for Colby, Bates and Bowdoin Colleges.
Per the Bangor Daily News October 18, 2011- Citing reduced margins and a need to put scarce resources to their most efficient use, the Maine Public Broadcasting Network announced it is pulling the plug on its annual MPBN Great TV Auction after 40 years. Usually broadcast over 10 days and nights beginning in late April, MPBN announced that an online-only version of its signature televised auction would be conducted on MPBN’s website ( auction.mpbn.net) throughout the month of November, and that no televised auction would be broadcast in April 2012.
The poster is in a wooden frame with glass covering and is sealed on the reverse, which includes a full hanging cord. It measures 12 1/4 by 20 1/2 inches in the frame.
Pictured is a solemn looking cat (white and brownish) standing on a pedestal table next to a vase containing irises. The picture has a white background and a teal border. It reads "It's not easy being an Iris." The poster is clearly identified top center as "the 18th Great TV Auction, WCBB April 12-21 * 1989"
The poster is hand numbered and signed in pencil- it is 3/40 and signed by artist Paul Plummer. This is in fantastic condition for being almost 30 years old.
