Vintage large-format fold-out 1937 Sunoco road map of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, printed more than 83 years ago.
This map opens to 28" x 29" and has great detail on old highway alignments and route numbers, with cartography by Rand McNally.
On the reverse side there are inset plans of Trenton, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and the New York City metropolitan area, including Newark, Elizabeth, Union, Hoboken, and Jersey City, with Hudson River ferry crossings.
There is also a decorative pictorial map showing historical points of interest, illustrated with dozens of charming illustrations.
This map was published by the Sun Oil Company in 1937 to promote its Sunoco gasoline and motor oil. It is dated by the code number in the lower margin: S.3739. Population data is from the 1930 census.
